5 UP Labourers Found Dead in Kurukshetra Resort Room

Tragic Discovery at Kurukshetra Resort

A grim discovery was made at a resort in Kurukshetra on Tuesday morning, where five labourers from Uttar Pradesh were found dead inside a single room. The police, upon preliminary investigation, suspect the cause of death to be asphyxia. It is believed the fatal incident occurred due to a fire lit inside the enclosed space for warmth the previous night.

Victims Identified, Circumstances Revealed

The deceased have been identified as Roshan, Noor, Sonu, and Madan, all residents of Shekhpura Qadima in Saharanpur district, Uttar Pradesh. The fifth victim was Ram Kumar, also from Saharanpur. The group had been hired by a contractor to carry out painting work at the resort and were provided accommodation on the same property.

According to Thanesar City Station House Officer (SHO) Dinesh Singh, the labourers, including the contractor, were staying at the resort for the paint job. "They had lit a fire and closed the room," SHO Singh stated, confirming the recovery of five bodies.

Sequence of Events and Police Response

The tragedy came to light when resort staff attempted to check on the workers in the morning. Upender, a resort employee, recounted the harrowing moment: "When our staff came to check in the morning, no labourer responded to the knocking. We checked through the window but nobody woke up." The manager was immediately alerted, who then informed the police.

Upon entering the room, officials found burning coal in an iron pan, pointing towards the likely source of carbon monoxide that led to asphyxiation in the poorly ventilated room. The labourers had reportedly arrived for the job on Monday evening.

The police have taken the bodies into their custody for a post-mortem examination to conclusively determine the exact cause of death. A thorough investigation into the incident is currently ongoing to piece together the final moments and ascertain if any negligence was involved.

This heartbreaking incident highlights the often precarious living conditions faced by migrant labourers, even at their temporary worksites, raising serious questions about safety protocols for worker accommodation.
