In a significant move to combat drug-related crimes, the Tirupati police have invoked the stringent Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act) against six habitual offenders. This decisive action is part of a sustained crackdown on narcotics activities across the district.
Zero-Tolerance Stance Against Drug Crimes
Tirupati Superintendent of Police L Subba Rayudu stated that the decision was a direct response to the accused individuals' repeated involvement in the transport and distribution of ganja, alongside other criminal offences registered across multiple police stations. The department is maintaining a zero-tolerance policy towards drug-related crimes, with preventing repeat offences being a top priority.
"All wings of the police are working in close coordination to ensure a drug-free and crime-free Tirupati district, while taking firm legal action against habitual offenders," the SP emphasized. He has instructed officials to remain vigilant, respond swiftly to any information on narcotics, and enforce strict legal measures without compromising public safety.
Profiles of the Detained Offenders
The police action follows a thorough review of multiple cases registered against the accused in the limits of Tiruchanur, Srikalahasti I Town, Srikalahasti II Town, and Thottambedu police stations. This marks the second such action, as seven other offenders were previously detained under the same Act.

Sustained Surveillance and Public Appeal
SP Rayudu confirmed that continuous surveillance is being maintained on individuals known to be involved in the transport and sale of drugs. Dedicated police teams are actively tracking their movements and activities to prevent further crimes.
The SP also made a public appeal, urging citizens to report any activity linked to the transport, sale, or use of ganja and other narcotic substances. Information can be provided to the nearest police station or by calling the emergency number 112. He assured the public that all information received would be treated with strict confidentiality.
