A 65-year-old man was shot dead in Jhajjar district's Dujana village on Wednesday evening over a land dispute, police said. The deceased has been identified as Ramphal, a resident of the same village.
Incident Details
According to the police, the incident took place around 6 pm when Ramphal was returning home after attending to his fields. The accused, identified as Sonu, intercepted him and an argument ensued over a piece of land. During the altercation, Sonu allegedly fired at Ramphal with a country-made pistol. The bullet hit Ramphal in the chest, and he collapsed on the spot. The accused fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
Police Response
Upon receiving information, a police team from the local station reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem. The victim's family members have alleged that the accused had been threatening Ramphal over the land dispute for the past few days. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act. Senior police officials have assured strict action against the accused.
Investigation Underway
The police have launched a manhunt to arrest the absconding accused. Preliminary investigations suggest that the land dispute had been ongoing between the two families for several months. The police are also examining the possibility of previous enmity. The postmortem report is awaited to confirm the exact cause of death.
