President Droupadi Murmu has appointed seven advocates of the Patna High Court as judges of the same court, according to a notification issued by the Union Ministry of Law and Justice on Wednesday evening.
Details of Appointments
Among the seven appointees, Ranjan Kumar Jha, Kumar Manish, and Raj Kumar have been appointed as permanent judges and will serve until their retirement. The remaining four — Rana Vikram Singh, Vikash Kumar, Girijish Kumar, and Alok Kumar — have been appointed as additional judges for a period of two years from the date they assume office.
Historic Milestone
With these appointments, the 110-year-old Patna High Court is set to achieve a historic milestone by crossing the mark of 40 permanent judges for the first time. Against a sanctioned strength of 53 judges, the court has 40 posts for permanent judges and 13 for additional judges. After the seven newly appointed judges assume charge, the working strength of the Patna High Court will rise to 43, the highest in its history.
This development marks a significant step in strengthening the judiciary in Bihar, ensuring faster disposal of cases and reducing the burden on existing judges.
