Goa has witnessed a tragic week with authorities registering a total of seven cases of unnatural death across the state. The incidents, which occurred in various locations including Anjuna, Candolim, Panaji, and Margao, have claimed the lives of two British nationals alongside several local residents.
Deaths of Foreign Nationals in North Goa
Victor Alan Kelley, a 63-year-old British national, was declared brought dead at the Siolim Primary Health Centre (PHC). According to his wife, Sarah Jane Morley, Kelley was experiencing breathing difficulties and was shifted from his residence to the PHC, where the medical officer pronounced him dead on arrival. Reports indicate Kelley had been unwell and was previously admitted to a private hospital in Mapusa for a week.
In a separate case, 54-year-old Ian William Griffith, also a British national, was declared brought dead at the Candolim PHC on Wednesday evening. Police revealed that Griffith had arrived in Goa just three days prior to his death and was staying at a resort in Dando, Candolim. Investigations into both cases are ongoing.
Local Fatalities and Unidentified Body Found
In Panaji, the body of an unidentified male, estimated to be between 40 and 45 years old, was discovered inside a vehicle parked at Junta House. The Panaji police conducted a panchanama and searched the vicinity but found no incriminating articles or identification documents. The body has been shifted to the morgue at the Goa Medical College (GMC) for further procedures.
Another unnatural death was reported in Tiswadi, where 21-year-old Anisur Shaikh, a resident of Muslim Waddo, was brought dead to the casualty ward. The Panaji police are conducting a detailed enquiry to determine the cause of his death.
Deaths in South Goa Districts
The Margao police were informed by the South Goa District Hospital about the death of 58-year-old Rajeshri Naik from Curti, Ponda. She was brought dead from Aquem-Baixo, Navelim, in a case of aspiration. Family members stated that Naik had been unwell for the past three years and was recently discharged from GMC on November 26 after treatment for pneumonia and aspiration.
In a separate incident, Fatorda police were alerted by the Margao district hospital about 70-year-old Vimal Loilenkar from Gogol, who was declared brought dead. She was found unconscious at the KTC bus stand in Margao and shifted to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead, reportedly due to cardiac arrest.
Furthermore, Maina-Curtorim police were notified about the death of 61-year-old Jude Rodrigues at his house in Maina on Friday. His body has been preserved at the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH) to complete medico-legal formalities.
Police across various jurisdictions in Goa are continuing their investigations into these seven separate incidents to ascertain the precise circumstances surrounding each unnatural death.
