A tragic incident occurred in Kamdev Bigha village under Kalpa police station in Jehanabad district on Saturday night, where a 75-year-old woman lost her life while resisting a suspected burglary attempt. The intruders are believed to have entered the house through the roof. Investigators suspect that the woman woke up during the break-in and resisted, prompting the assailants to strike her on the head with a heavy object, resulting in her immediate death.
Victim Identified
The deceased has been identified as Ram Kumari Devi. She had been living alone since the death of her husband, Siddheshwar Singh, two years ago. The couple had no children. Household items were found scattered at the scene, indicating a possible theft attempt. A forensic science laboratory (FSL) team collected evidence from the spot to aid in the investigation.
Relative's Account
Upendra Singh, a relative of the victim, stated, "She usually woke up early, but her door remained closed for a long time on Sunday morning. Despite repeated knocks and calls, there was no response. When the family entered the house, they found her body and the house ransacked."
Police Investigation
Town SDPO Manish Chandra Chaudhary arrived at the scene with a police team and sent the body to Sadar hospital for postmortem. "We are probing all angles. It appears the woman may have been hit on the head, though the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the postmortem. Neighbours are being questioned for leads," the SDPO added.
Authorities are working diligently to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
