Prayagraj: Eight Individuals Arrested for Alleged Attack on Officials During Anti-Encroachment Operation

In a significant development in Prayagraj, the Kaushambi police have arrested eight people following an alleged attack on a joint team of police and revenue officials during an anti-encroachment drive. The incident occurred in Gaurahar Majra village, located in the Rampur Dhamava area, and has led to multiple charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Details of the Arrest and Accused

The arrested individuals have been identified as Bhagwati alias Bhagauti, Ramhit, Rajesh, Budhraj, Hiralal, Kamlesh, Shiv Singh, and Angad Singh. All are residents of Gaurahar Majra (Rampur Dhamava). The arrests were made on Sunday, after the alleged attack took place on Saturday evening during an operation to remove encroachments from barren land.

Sequence of Events Leading to the Incident

According to police reports, a joint team from the Saini police station and the revenue department, led by the nayab tehsildar of Sirathu, visited Gaurahar Mazra village to address encroachment issues. The team discovered that a woman named Jhulni Devi had allegedly encroached upon a barren piece of land. As they initiated the process to seal the land, a group of 15 to 20 unidentified individuals reportedly attacked them with sticks and bricks.

The police team managed to escape the assault, but the incident prompted the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) against the accused. The FIR includes charges under sections 191(2), 191(3), 190, 121(1), 352, 351(2), 109, and 119(1) of the BNS, covering offenses such as obstruction of official duty and assault.

Police Investigation and Ongoing Efforts

A senior police officer stated that out of the 15 accused involved in the attack, eight have been identified and arrested. The remaining individuals are currently absconding, but authorities have assured that efforts are underway to apprehend them soon. The police emphasized that such attacks on officials performing their duties will not be tolerated, and strict action will be taken to uphold law and order.

This incident highlights the challenges faced by authorities during anti-encroachment operations in rural areas, where tensions can escalate quickly. The joint team's mission was part of a broader initiative to reclaim public land from illegal occupation, a common issue in many parts of Uttar Pradesh.

The Kaushambi police have reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety of officials and the enforcement of land laws. Further investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the involvement of the arrested individuals and to locate the remaining suspects.
