Fatal Collision Claims Life of Expectant Mother

Veerpal Kaur (30), an eight-month-pregnant woman, died after a private bus struck her two-wheeler on the Ferozepur–Mallanwala Road near Sodhewala village on Sunday night. She was returning home from a routine medical check-up when the accident occurred. According to police, she was due to deliver her baby in August.

Details of the Incident

The bus driver allegedly fled the scene immediately after the collision, abandoning the vehicle a short distance away. However, police later took him into custody. Ravinder Kaur, a relative of the deceased, stated that the speeding bus hit Veerpal's two-wheeler with such force that she was thrown onto the road, suffering severe head injuries. She died at the spot.

Upon receiving information, personnel from the Sadak Surakhya Force (SSF) and city police arrived at the scene. They shifted the body to the mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

Investigation Underway

DSP (City) Sukhwinder Singh confirmed that the police have initiated an investigation. He said the bus has been impounded, and further action will be taken based on statements from the victim's family and the investigation's findings. The accident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety on the Ferozepur–Mallanwala Road.
