Ujjain: More than 90 police personnel from Agar Malwa district in Madhya Pradesh, including two former station house officers, have been booked in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar district following a court order in connection with a drug seizure case that was earlier projected as a major police success.
Court Order Leads to FIR
The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Chaumahla directed the registration of a case after examining an inquiry report and evidence. Acting on the order, Dag police station in Jhalawar district of Rajasthan, registered an FIR (No. 154/2026) against former Agar Kotwali police station in-charges Shashi Upadhyay and Roop Singh Rajput, Rakhi Gurjar, three other named individuals, and nearly 90 unidentified police personnel.
Background of the Case
The matter stems from a January 28, 2026 operation in which Agar Malwa police claimed to have seized MD drugs, chemicals used in drug manufacturing, and machinery valued at about Rs 5 crore from Ghatakhedi village in Jhalawar district. Two persons were arrested, and the operation was publicised as a major action under the NDPS Act.
Allegations of Fabrication
Subsequently, family members of the accused and 75-year-old Ghatakhedi resident Hamid Khan approached the Chaumahla court, alleging that the raid was fabricated and that legal procedures were not followed. They also claimed that around 100 police personnel had taken several family members away from the village. Describing the operation as malicious, they sought judicial intervention.
The court ordered an investigation by the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Jhalawar. After reviewing the inquiry findings, the court concluded that a prima facie cognisable offence appeared to have been committed and directed police to register an FIR.
Legal Provisions Invoked
The case has been registered under Sections 126(2), 115(2), 131, 201 and 329(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which relate to allegations including intimidation, misconduct, abuse of official position and tampering with evidence.
This development highlights the serious nature of the allegations against the police personnel, who now face legal action for their purported actions during the drug seizure operation.
