Body of Missing Elderly Man Found in Locked Room in Kanpur

A 92-year-old man's decomposed body was discovered on Friday in a locked room of a house in Anand Nagar under the Rawatpur police station area of Kanpur. The discovery came after residents reported a foul smell emanating from the house to the police via the UP-112 emergency service. Police officers arrived at the scene, forced open the door, and found the body inside.

The elderly man, identified as E Bakhsh, had not been seen for two days. His son, who resides on the upper floor of the same house, had filed a missing person complaint at the Rawatpur police station on June 10.

E Bakhsh, a resident of Anand Nagar Rawatpur, retired from the Ordnance Factory (Gun Factory) in 2003. He lived separately on the ground floor of the house, while his son Anurag, daughter-in-law, their children, and his daughter Alka occupied the upper floor.

According to family members, Bakhsh suddenly went missing from Sunday. A thorough search was conducted, including visits to his brother's home located some distance away, but he was not found. The family also checked the railway station, hospitals, and other likely places, all without success.

On Wednesday night, a foul smell was noticed near the house. By Friday, the odor had intensified, prompting neighbors to alert the son, who then informed the police. Police officers inspected a room constructed beneath the house, which appeared to be locked from inside. When slight pressure was applied to the door, it opened, revealing Bakhsh's naked body on the floor. The body had fully decomposed due to being several days old.

The police removed the body, completed the panchnama (inquest report), and sent it for post-mortem examination. ACP (Kalyanpur) Ashutosh Kumar stated that the family lived upstairs while the deceased occupied the ground floor. The body had been in the room for four days, and the family reported the matter only after the smell spread. The post-mortem examination is underway.
