Infant Found Abandoned at Major Railway Hub
A distressing incident unfolded at Ranchi railway station on Saturday, where a three-month-old boy was found abandoned. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) confirmed the rescue of the infant from a precarious location under an overbridge on platform 1.
Rescue and Immediate Response
Upon discovery, the RPF personnel swiftly took the baby into their care. The child was first brought to the Govt Rail Police post located within the station premises. Following necessary initial procedures, the infant was formally handed over to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), the statutory body responsible for the protection and rehabilitation of children in need.
The authorities have assured that the baby is now safe and under the supervision of child care experts. The CWC will oversee his immediate medical care and future rehabilitation, including potential adoption processes as per legal protocols.
CCTV Footage and Ongoing Investigation
In a crucial development, officials reviewed the station's closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage. The footage revealed that an unidentified person arrived at the railway station carrying the baby. However, the individual left the scene, leaving the infant behind.
The RPF has launched a detailed probe to trace this person. Investigators are scrutinizing the footage further and gathering evidence to understand the circumstances that led to the abandonment. The motive and the identity of the person seen in the CCTV remain unclear, and the details are under active investigation.
This incident has highlighted concerns about child safety in public spaces and the effectiveness of surveillance systems. The RPF has urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
