Tragic Death of Abandoned Newborn Girl in Chandigarh Hospital
A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Chandigarh on Saturday afternoon when a newborn girl, found abandoned near the Government Multi-Speciality Hospital (GMSH) in Sector 16, tragically succumbed during medical treatment. The infant, estimated to be just one or two days old, was discovered in a yellow cement sack with her body smeared with dirt, highlighting the distressing circumstances of her abandonment.
Discovery and Immediate Response
Hours before her death, Bunty, an auto-rickshaw driver from Sector 56, heard the sound of a baby crying near Gate No. 1 of GMSH-16. Upon investigation, he found the infant inside the sack and immediately alerted the police. The baby was rushed to the children's emergency ward at GMSH-16, where medical staff noted her weak and irregular breathing, indicating severe health issues from the outset.
Police Investigation and Legal Action
A team from the Sector 17 police station visited the hospital but could not trace any family members or relatives of the child. Following the infant's death while undergoing treatment, police have registered a case under Section 93 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against unidentified persons for abandoning the newborn. Authorities are actively reviewing CCTV footage from the area and questioning local vendors and workers to identify those involved in this tragic case.
