ACB arrests 3 Karnataka cops for bribery in Jaipur probe

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested three Karnataka Police personnel who were in Jaipur for an investigation, after allegedly catching one of them red-handed on Sunday while receiving a bribe of Rs 40,000 to weaken a dowry harassment case.

Arrested Personnel Identified

The arrested personnel were identified as sub-inspector Anitha K and head constables Ulavappa and Yatish, all posted at the HAL Police Station in Bengaluru. ACB officials stated they had demanded Rs 2 lakh from a Jaipur resident in exchange for relief to his family members in the case.

Case Background

Sources in the ACB revealed that the original complainant is a resident of Bengaluru, who married a Jaipur-based man in May 2025. In February 2026, she filed an FIR in Bengaluru accusing her husband and his family members of harassing her for dowry.

The three Karnataka police personnel had traveled to Jaipur to investigate the case, and according to the ACB, pressured the husband’s family to pay Rs 2 lakh as a bribe. The husband’s father approached the ACB and complained that Karnataka police head constable Ulavappa was calling him repeatedly for a meeting at a city hotel to discuss the payment.

Trap Laid by ACB

After verifying the complaint and confirming the demand for Rs 2 lakh, the ACB instructed the family member to arrange the money and set a trap at a hotel in the city’s Vidhayakpuri area. A team led by Additional SP Bhupendra allegedly caught Ulavappa red-handed on Sunday while accepting Rs 40,000 as part payment of the Rs 2 lakh bribe, the ACB said.

SI Anitha K and head constable Yatish were questioned and subsequently placed under arrest after investigators found evidence of their involvement in the bribery.

Medical Assistance Provided

SI Anitha’s health deteriorated during initial questioning, and she was provided medical assistance due to high blood pressure, ACB officials said.

A case will be registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and all three accused remain under interrogation.
