ACB Nabs Hospital Superintendent and Sanitation Worker in Bribery Sting Operation
In a significant crackdown on corruption in the healthcare sector, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) executed a successful operation in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district. On Monday, authorities arrested the medical superintendent of the Rural Hospital at Bidkin along with a sanitation worker. The arrests were made as the duo was caught red-handed while accepting an illegal bribe of Rs1,200 from a female patient.
Details of the Accused and Legal Proceedings
The individuals involved in this scandal have been identified as Dr Vijay Dalvi, the 58-year-old medical superintendent, and Narayan Brahmane, the sanitation worker. Following their apprehension, both accused were presented before the local court on Tuesday. The court has remanded them into three-day police custody to facilitate further investigation into the matter.
How the Bribery Scheme Unfolded
According to ACB inspector Santosh Tigote, who spoke to the media, Dr Dalvi initially demanded a sum of Rs6,000 from the patient for a family planning operation. This surgery is mandated to be provided free of cost under government schemes, making the demand particularly egregious. The patient's family, unwilling to comply with this illegal request, took decisive action by approaching the ACB with a formal complaint.
After verifying the bribe demand, the ACB set up a meticulous trap. During negotiations, Dr Dalvi reduced the amount to Rs1,200 and instructed the patient to deposit the money with the sanitation worker, Narayan Brahmane. This arrangement was part of the illicit gratification process aimed at bypassing legal protocols.
Execution of the Trap and Evidence Collection
The ACB team successfully caught the sanitation worker in the act of accepting the bribe money. Subsequently, Dr Dalvi was also arrested in connection with the scheme. Law enforcement officials recovered the full bribe amount and seized the mobile phones of both accused as part of the evidence. Additionally, a search was conducted at the residence of the primary accused, Dr Dalvi, to gather further insights into the case.

The Bidkin police have registered a formal offence under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. An intensive investigation is currently underway to uncover any additional details or potential accomplices involved in this corruption scandal. The ACB has reiterated its commitment to rooting out such malpractices in public services.
