ACB arrests Ramgarh probation officer, computer operator for bribe

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday arrested district probation officer Simran Kumari, 31, and computer operator Sujit Kumar, 27, for allegedly taking a Rs 5,000 bribe from Tridev Kumar, a beneficiary of a government scheme, the ACB’s Hazaribag divisional office said in a statement.

Background of the Case

Tridev, a resident of Barkipona village under Rajrappa police station in Ramgarh district, approached Kumari seeking an increase in subsidy under the scheme. She allegedly directed him to contact Sujit in her office, who demanded Rs 10,000 to process the work, ACB said.

Complaint and Trap

Unwilling to pay the bribe, Tridev filed a written complaint with the ACB SP in Hazaribag. After verifying the allegation, ACB formed a trap team comprising officials, a magistrate and an official witness. The team caught Sujit allegedly accepting Rs 5,000 on behalf of Kumari in her office during the Thursday operation. Kumari was later arrested along with Sujit, the ACB statement said.
