ACB Ramps Up Search for Fugitive Retired IAS Officer in Jal Jeevan Mission Corruption Case
Jaipur: In a significant escalation of the ongoing Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) corruption investigation, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has intensified its efforts to locate Subodh Agarwal, a retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer who has been evading authorities for several weeks. The probe, which gained momentum on February 17, has seen the ACB deploy nearly 40 specialized teams led by senior officials to conduct a widespread operation.
Nationwide Raids and Extensive Questioning
The ACB's investigation has involved a series of coordinated search operations spanning 21 cities across multiple states. Authorities have questioned approximately 50 individuals as part of their inquiry, focusing on uncovering Agarwal's hideouts and connections. The search efforts have been particularly concentrated in Rajasthan, with raids conducted in Jaipur, Udaipur, Barmer, Jodhpur, Jhalawar, Kota, and Nagaur.
Beyond Rajasthan, the operation has extended to New Delhi, Chandigarh, and various urban areas in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. Specific locations targeted include Faridabad, Noida, and Meerut, indicating the broad geographic scope of the investigation.
Targeted Searches in Affluent Neighborhoods
Investigators have focused their attention on upscale residential areas suspected of harboring the former bureaucrat. In Delhi, searches were conducted in affluent neighborhoods such as New Moti Bagh and Defence Colony. In Haryana, properties in Sector 39 and a farmhouse in Sohna came under scrutiny.
In Jaipur, the ACB executed extensive searches targeting residential areas and properties in C-Scheme, Nirman Nagar, and Bajaj Nagar Extension. Additionally, various farmhouses in nearby locales were examined as part of the operation to trace Agarwal's movements and potential safe houses.
Comprehensive Investigation Techniques
As part of their meticulous inquiry, ACB officials have interviewed numerous individuals connected to Agarwal, including relatives, friends, domestic staff, and drivers. These interviews aim to gather intelligence about his whereabouts and any assistance he may be receiving to evade capture.
Investigators are also employing advanced technological methods, assessing CCTV footage from five different cities to track the movements of Agarwal and identify potential accomplices. This digital evidence collection represents a crucial component of the investigation strategy.
The Jal Jeevan Mission, a flagship government scheme aimed at providing tap water connections to rural households, has been under scrutiny following allegations of corruption.
