In a recent operation, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) apprehended an assistant engineer from the Prantij municipality in Sabarkantha for demanding a bribe related to the installation of water ATMs. The accused, identified as Rajdeepsinh Chavda, allegedly sought a bribe from a complainant who had successfully constructed two water ATMs after securing the tender.
Details of the Incident
The complainant visited Chavda's office at Karmayogi Bhawan to get his bills approved. During this meeting, Chavda purportedly demanded Rs 45,000 as a bribe for processing the approval. Unwilling to comply with the illegal demand, the complainant reported the matter to the ACB.
ACB Operation
The Gandhinagar unit of the ACB, comprising officials VB Patel and Haresh Mewada, swiftly responded to the complaint. They devised a trap and successfully caught Chavda red-handed while he was accepting the bribe money. The operation highlights the ACB's commitment to curbing corruption in public services.
Legal Implications
The accused now faces legal proceedings under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The ACB has urged citizens to report any instances of bribery to help maintain integrity in public administration. This case serves as a warning to officials who misuse their positions for personal gain.
