ACB Apprehends Middleman in Rs 50,000 Bribery Sting Targeting Police Constable

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) executed a meticulously planned operation on Thursday, resulting in the booking of a police constable and his alleged middleman for soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 in Ahmedabad. This incident underscores ongoing efforts to combat corruption within law enforcement agencies.

Details of the Accused and the Trap

The individuals implicated in this case are Laxmanbhai Gagjibhai Mori, a Class III police constable stationed at the Sola High Court police station, and Brijeshkumar Mansukhbhai Shrimali, a resident of Dholka who acted as the intermediary. During the ACB's trap, Shrimali was apprehended red-handed while accepting the bribe money. However, Mori was not present at the scene and is currently absconding, according to official statements.

Background of the Complaint and Alleged Demands

The ACB initiated this investigation based on a complaint from a vigilant citizen. The complainant alleged that his brother, along with five others, was involved in a financial fraud case registered at the Sola High Court police station. The brother was arrested in December 2025 and subsequently remanded to Sabarmati jail after police custody.

During the course of the investigation, Constable Mori allegedly demanded Rs 1.2 lakh from the complainant. In exchange for this payment, Mori promised several favors, including:

  • Ensuring no further harassment of the complainant's brother.
  • Avoiding the registration of any additional offences against him.
  • Expediting the filing of the chargesheet.
  • Facilitating the bail process for the accused.

After negotiations, the bribe amount was reportedly reduced to Rs 70,000. Officials revealed that an initial payment of Rs 20,000 had already been transferred online to the accused prior to the trap.

Execution of the ACB Operation

The remaining Rs 50,000 was scheduled to be handed over near a tea stall at Sarkhej Circle on Thursday. Acting on the complaint, the ACB set up a covert operation with panch witnesses present. During this sting, Shrimali allegedly accepted the bribe money on behalf of Constable Mori. He was immediately apprehended with the cash, providing concrete evidence for the case.

This successful trap highlights the ACB's commitment to rooting out corruption and serves as a stern warning to those attempting to exploit their positions for illicit gains. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to locate and apprehend the absconding constable.
