ACB Traps Revenue Official for Rs 6.4 Lakh Bribe in Sand Mining

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Saturday trapped and detained a senior revenue official at his residence in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 6.4 lakh. The bribe was linked to illegal sand excavation and transportation activities in the region.

Operation Details

ACB Superintendent of Police Madhuri Kedar Kangane stated that the complaint was thoroughly verified before the trap was executed. The official was caught red-handed while accepting the money in the presence of panch witnesses. The operation was carried out by the Beed ACB unit at the official's residence.

Legal Action

A case has been registered under Sections 7 and 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Satara police station. These sections deal with public servants accepting bribes and abusing their official positions.

Complainant's Allegations

The complainant alleged that the official demanded money to overlook illegal sand excavation and to permit transportation of sand. Initially, the official had sought Rs 12 lakh, out of which Rs 8 lakh was reportedly paid earlier. Subsequently, the accused demanded the remaining Rs 4 lakh, along with additional money for allowing six tippers to transport sand, bringing the total demand to Rs 6.4 lakh.

Seizure and Investigation

Following the trap, ACB officials seized cash, a cellphone, gold rings, and other items from the official's possession. Further investigation is underway, and a detailed report will be submitted to the state's revenue department for necessary disciplinary action.

The ACB has assured that strict action will be taken against the accused, and efforts to curb corruption in government departments will continue.
