Accused Fires at Police in Bhilwara, Jumps into River

A criminal allegedly opened fire on a police team from Hamirgarh area in Bhilwara district on Friday before jumping into a river while attempting to flee. The incident occurred when the police team had gone to apprehend him.

Details of the Incident

Station House Officer (SHO) Sunil Kumar Beda reported that police received information about the movement of the accused, identified as Kamlesh Gurjar. Acting on a tip-off, the team reached near Swaroopganj Chauraha to trace him.

Upon spotting the police team, Kamlesh, who was riding a motorcycle, allegedly fired a round at the officers. The shot missed its target, prompting the police to retaliate and give chase.

Escape Attempt and Injury

During the pursuit, the accused jumped from a high-level bridge over the Banas River into the water below. The jump resulted in a fracture to his right leg. Police personnel quickly pulled him out of the river and initially admitted him to Hamirgarh Hospital. Later, he was shifted to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital under police surveillance for further treatment.

Legal Action

Police have seized a pistol and a cartridge from the scene. A case has been registered against the accused under charges including attempt to murder, obstruction of government duty, and violations of the Arms Act.

Further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
