Hyderabad Advocate Alleges Death Threats from Folk Singer in 10 Crore Fraud Dispute

In a dramatic escalation of legal hostilities, an advocate from Tarnaka in Hyderabad has filed a police complaint accusing a prominent Telugu folk singer of issuing death threats against him. The advocate claims the threats were made to pressure him into dropping a cheating case involving the singer's brother and a microfinance scheme that allegedly defrauded investors of nearly 10 crore rupees.

Police Cases Registered from Both Sides

Based on the advocate's detailed complaint, the Punjagutta police formally registered a case against the singer and several others on April 7. The case has been filed under specific sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 351(2) for criminal intimidation and Section 352 for intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace. The named accused include the folk singer, her brother Shiva, and three additional individuals.

This police action follows an earlier complaint lodged by the singer herself. In the third week of March, she approached the Narsingi police station alleging that the advocate had been threatening her and circulating false information on social media platforms. She specifically claimed he spread baseless rumors that she had cheated people of 150 crore rupees and threatened to defame her when she refused a meeting.

The Narsingi police subsequently registered a case against the advocate under BNS Sections 79 (for word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 351(3) (for criminal intimidation). Both cases are currently under active investigation by the respective police stations. Authorities have confirmed that no arrests have been made so far as inquiries continue.

Details of the Alleged Threats and Financial Fraud

In his official complaint to the Punjagutta police, the advocate stated that he legally represents a group of investors who were duped in a microfinance scheme allegedly operated by the singer's brother, Shiva, and his associates. The total financial loss is estimated to be close to 10 crore rupees.

The advocate provided a chilling account of the alleged confrontation. He told police that on April 6, he met the singer and the other accused at their lawyer's office in the Punjagutta area. During this meeting, he claims they attempted to bribe him with money to cease his legal pursuit of the fraud case. When he firmly refused their monetary offer, the situation turned hostile.

"The singer threatened to kill me and dispose of my body without a trace," the advocate alleged in his complaint, describing the direct death threat he reportedly received. This intimidation, he claims, was explicitly intended to force him to abandon the cheating complaint against her brother and the other individuals involved in the alleged financial scheme.

Ongoing Investigations and Legal Proceedings

The Hyderabad police are now investigating two separate but interconnected cases stemming from this dispute. The Punjagutta case focuses on the alleged death threats and intimidation against the advocate, while the Narsingi case examines the singer's allegations of threats and defamation against her.

Legal experts note that the situation represents a complex web of accusations involving serious charges under the newly implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The cases touch upon multiple aspects of criminal law including intimidation, insult, and potential financial fraud. The involvement of a public figure like a popular folk singer adds further scrutiny to the proceedings.

Both parties await the outcome of police investigations which will determine if sufficient evidence exists to proceed with charges or make arrests. The legal community in Hyderabad is closely watching how authorities handle these competing allegations involving an advocate and a cultural celebrity.
