Agra Court Sentences Three Brothers to Life Imprisonment for Murdering Uncle

In a significant verdict, a court in Agra has sentenced three brothers to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of their 52-year-old uncle, Mukesh Chand, in 2020. The crime, which involved slitting the victim's throat with a razor, stemmed from a long-standing family dispute over money and abuse.

Details of the Crime and Conviction

Additional Sessions Judge Sanjay K Lal delivered the judgment on Wednesday, imposing a life sentence on convicts Girish Kumar, Manish Kumar, and Amit Kumar, all residents of Soura village under Doki police station in Agra district. The court also levied a fine of Rs 3 lakh on the trio.

According to Additional District Government Counsel (ADGC) Pradeep Sharma, the brothers had a history of assaulting their elderly father for money. Their uncle, Mukesh Chand, consistently opposed this behavior. Days before the murder, Chand reprimanded them for beating their father, leading to threats from the brothers.

On October 4, 2020, the three brothers confronted Chand in an agricultural field. While Manish and Amit restrained him, Girish slit his throat with a razor. The victim's wife, Imarti Devi, and son Neeraj Kumar, who were at a distance, witnessed the horrific act. As they raised an alarm, the assailants fled the scene.

Investigation and Trial Proceedings

Based on a complaint filed by Vinay Kumar, the couple's other son, a case under IPC Section 302 (murder) was registered. Girish and Manish were arrested on October 12, 2020, and Amit was apprehended three days later. The murder weapon was also recovered during the investigation.

During the trial, the prosecution presented eight witnesses, including family members and a doctor. Relying on their testimonies and the post-mortem report, the court found the accused guilty. ADGC Sharma emphasized that the evidence was compelling, leading to the life sentences.

This case highlights the severe consequences of familial violence and the judicial system's role in delivering justice. The verdict serves as a stern warning against such heinous acts in society.
