Agra Couple Arrested for Murder and Staged Suicide of Husband
In a shocking incident in Uttar Pradesh's Agra district, a 23-year-old woman and her lover have been arrested for allegedly murdering her 24-year-old husband and then attempting to disguise the crime as a suicide. Police officials announced the arrests on Friday, revealing grim details of the case that has sent ripples through the local community.
Police Investigation Uncovers Gruesome Details
The case came to light when the father of Luvkesh Tomar, a resident of Lodhai village in Agra, filed a formal complaint on February 12, accusing his son's wife and her lover of murder. Ekta police station SHO Hansraj Bhadhauria confirmed that an FIR was registered under BNS sections 103(1) for murder and 238 for destroying evidence.
Upon receiving the complaint, a police team swiftly responded by visiting the crime scene for a thorough inspection. During initial questioning, the deceased's wife, identified as Gauri, was taken into police custody. Authorities recovered a mobile phone from her possession, along with the alleged murder weapons: a pillow and a saree.
To apprehend the other suspect, a specialized police team was formed, leading to the arrest of Sundar Singh, 23, on Friday. ACP Piyoosh Kant Rai provided updates on the investigation, highlighting the coordinated efforts that brought the accused to justice.
Interrogation Reveals Chilling Sequence of Events
During police interrogation, Sundar Singh confessed to the crime, detailing a harrowing sequence of events. According to his statement, on the night of February 10, Gauri invited him to her home. When her husband, Luvkesh, discovered them in a compromising position, he became enraged and began assaulting his wife.
In a violent escalation, Sundar pushed Luvkesh to the ground and proceeded to smother him with a pillow, while Gauri restrained her husband by holding his hands and legs. After approximately 15 minutes, Luvkesh stopped breathing, marking the tragic end of the assault.
In a calculated move to cover up the murder, Gauri then retrieved a saree, fashioned it into a noose, and placed it around Luvkesh's neck. Sundar assisted by hanging the body from the ceiling fan, creating a scene intended to mimic a suicide.
Family and Community Reaction
Early on February 10, around 4 am, family members and neighbors were informed that Luvkesh had died by suicide. In accordance with local customs, the family hastily performed the last rites. However, suspicions of foul play soon arose, prompting them to alert the police, which initiated the investigation.
Luvkesh Tomar, who worked as an electrician, had been married to Gauri for four years. The couple shared a three-year-old son, adding a layer of tragedy to the case as the child is now left without a father amid the criminal proceedings.
This incident underscores the complexities of domestic disputes and the severe consequences when they turn violent. Police continue to investigate further details, ensuring all aspects of the case are thoroughly examined to uphold justice.
