Agra Police Takes Strict Action: Three Officers Suspended in Separate Incidents
In a decisive move underscoring a zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct, the Agra police suspended three officials on Sunday in two distinct cases involving negligence and improper handling of a juvenile. The suspensions highlight ongoing efforts to enforce discipline within the force.
SHO Suspended for Defying Directives
The Station House Officer (SHO) of Shahganj Police Station, Veeresh Pal Giri, was suspended with immediate effect for negligence and disobeying orders issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (City) Sayed Ali Abbas. According to police sources, the incident stemmed from a prior complaint against constable Sunny Malik, who was accused of illegally detaining a JCB owner over pending finance instalments and extorting money from him.
In response, DCP Abbas had transferred Malik to police lines a few days earlier. However, SHO Giri failed to relieve Malik, allowing him to continue serving at the police station. This lapse came to light on Saturday when Malik was assigned VIP duty from Shahganj Police Station, prompting swift disciplinary action. The Agra Police stated in an official release, "In a strict disciplinary action under the zero-tolerance policy, the SHO of Shahganj Police Station, Veeresh Pal Giri, was suspended with immediate effect for disobeying the directions of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (City)."
Sub-Inspectors Suspended for Juvenile Detention
In a separate and equally concerning incident, two sub-inspectors were suspended for allegedly making a juvenile sit for hours at the Midakur police outpost under Kirawali police station. The case originated from a scuffle between two minors on February 18. On February 20, members of both families reached the outpost and agreed to a compromise, but it later emerged that a 15-year-old boy had been forced to remain seated at the outpost for several hours, violating legal protocols.
An inquiry conducted by Assistant Commissioner of Police (Achhnera) Shailendra Singh found sub-inspectors Ishant Verma and Anurag guilty of detaining the juvenile. Acting on these findings, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Aditya suspended both officers immediately. Speaking to the media, DCP Aditya emphasized, "According to the law, a juvenile should not be made to sit at the police outpost. Following an inquiry by the assistant commissioner of police (Achhnera), both sub-inspectors were suspended with immediate effect, and a detailed investigation of the case is being conducted."
Broader Implications and Police Accountability
These suspensions reflect the Agra Police's commitment to maintaining high standards of conduct and accountability. The zero-tolerance policy aims to deter similar infractions and ensure that officers adhere strictly to legal and procedural guidelines. The cases serve as a reminder of the importance of timely compliance with orders and proper handling of sensitive situations, particularly involving minors.
As investigations proceed, the Agra Police are expected to review internal protocols to prevent such incidents in the future. The swift action taken in both cases demonstrates a proactive approach to addressing lapses and upholding public trust in law enforcement.
