Ahmedabad Bomb Scare: Rural Court Targeted in Second Hoax Incident
Ahmedabad was gripped by another bomb scare on Friday, as the rural court in Navrangpura received a threatening message, marking the second such incident in just two days. This follows a similar hoax that caused panic at the metropolitan court in Gheekanta on Thursday, highlighting a concerning pattern of threats against judicial complexes in the city.
Immediate Police Response and Security Measures
Upon receiving the threat, authorities launched an immediate and comprehensive security operation. Teams from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), dog squad, local police, and fire brigade rushed to the rural court complex located near the Income Tax area. The entire premises and surrounding zones were subjected to a thorough search, but no suspicious objects were discovered, according to official statements.
A police official confirmed, "The entire court premises was checked thoroughly by BDDS and dog squad teams. Nothing suspicious was found." As a precautionary measure, security around the court complex was significantly tightened to prevent any potential risks.
Details of the Previous Threat at Metropolitan Court
The fresh threat emerged just one day after a formal complaint was lodged with the cybercrime police on Thursday. This complaint stemmed from an email sent to the chief judicial magistrate court at Gheekanta, which triggered widespread alarm.
According to the complaint filed by Nilesh Mekwan, 53, the registrar of the chief judicial magistrate court, an email from an unidentified sender claimed that 18 cyanide gas-filled bombs were planted inside the court building. The message warned that these devices would explode by 1:45 PM, creating a sense of urgency and fear among court staff and the public.
The email, originating from an address under the name Sourav Biswas early Thursday morning, contained a lengthy message with political references and explicit threats designed to incite panic. In response, the court administration promptly alerted the Karanj police station and the police control room, leading to a detailed search of the metropolitan court premises by BDDS and security teams. However, no explosive devices were located during this operation.
Legal Action and Ongoing Investigations
Following the incident at the metropolitan court, cybercrime police registered a case under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act against the unidentified sender. Authorities have indicated that these threats appear to be part of a continuing series targeting court complexes in Ahmedabad, raising concerns about public safety and the need for enhanced security protocols.
As investigations continue, officials are urging vigilance and cooperation from the public to help prevent such hoaxes and ensure the safety of judicial institutions in the city.
