Ahmedabad Police Officers Allegedly Assaulted During Detention Attempt
In a disturbing incident in Ahmedabad, two on-duty police officers were reportedly attacked while attempting to detain a man near Anandnagar on Saturday. The altercation resulted in injuries to the officers and significant damage to government property at the police station.
Violent Confrontation During Routine Duty
According to the official complaint filed with Anandnagar police, head constable Jayvirsinh Hardevsinh of Anandnagar police station, who was serving as mobile van in-charge, was performing his duties alongside driver Vikramsinh Takhtsinh. The officers were stationed near Gopal Awas since morning as part of peacekeeping measures following a separate incident where someone allegedly tore a flag during an Ambedkar Jayanti event, which had been registered with Satellite police.
The situation escalated around 11 am on Saturday when police noticed a heated argument near a fabrication shop in the area. The accused individual, identified as Kamalsinh Parmar, was engaged in a quarrel with another man who was removing goods from the shop. When officers intervened to calm the situation, Parmar allegedly began verbally abusing the police personnel present.
Physical Assault on Officers
When police objected to the abusive language, Parmar reportedly turned aggressive and initiated a physical confrontation. The complaint details that Parmar kicked head constable Hardevsinh in the stomach and bit his right thumb during the scuffle. Additionally, while officers attempted to secure Parmar in the mobile van, he allegedly twisted the thumb of another police officer, causing further injury.
During transportation to the police station, the accused allegedly threatened to "strip the cops of their insignia and ensure they do not continue in service," according to Hardevsinh's statement in the complaint.
Destruction of Government Property
The violent behavior continued at the Anandnagar police station, where Parmar allegedly persisted in abusing staff members. In a particularly destructive act, he reportedly banged his head against a television screen installed for CCTV surveillance, causing damage to government property estimated at approximately Rs 50,000.
Following the incident, head constable Hardevsinh received medical treatment at Sola Civil Hospital for his injuries. The Anandnagar police have registered a comprehensive case against Kamalsinh Parmar under multiple sections of the law, including:
- Obstructing a public servant in the discharge of public duties
- Voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt to deter a public servant from duty
- Mischief causing damage to property
- Criminal intimidation
Police authorities have confirmed that a thorough investigation into the incident is currently underway to examine all aspects of the case and ensure appropriate legal action is taken against the accused individual.
