Ahmedabad Family Faces Legal Action After Confrontation with Police Patrol
In a late-night incident in Ahmedabad, four members of a family have been booked by the Sabarmati Riverfront (West) police following an altercation with a patrol team. The police complaint, filed on Monday, details the events that unfolded around 12:25 am near Vallabh Sadan in the B Division area.
Traffic Stop Escalates into Public Disturbance
During routine night surveillance, a police patrol team observed a scooter approaching from the wrong side of the road. The vehicle was allegedly being driven in a manner that posed a risk to both the rider and other road users. Upon stopping the scooter, officers discovered that two youths were riding without helmets.
When asked to produce a driving license and vehicle documents, the rider reportedly stated he did not have them. As police attempted to take action for these traffic violations, the youths began arguing loudly with the officers, raising their voices in public.
Family Involvement and Escalation
The situation intensified when the parents of the youths arrived at the scene and allegedly joined the argument. According to the complaint, the parents confronted the police team and attempted to obstruct them from carrying out their duties. One family member reportedly started recording a video of the police personnel on a mobile phone, while others shouted and used abusive language.
This commotion attracted the attention of passers-by, leading to a crowd gathering at the spot. As tensions rose, additional police personnel were called to the scene to manage the situation. The four family members were subsequently taken to the Sabarmati Riverfront (West) police station for further proceedings.
Legal Charges Filed
Police have registered offences against the two youths for multiple traffic violations, including wrong-side driving and riding without helmets. Additionally, all four family members have been booked for allegedly obstructing public servants from performing their duty and creating a public disturbance. This incident highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement in maintaining order during routine patrols and the legal consequences of resisting authority.
