The Gujarat High Court Advocates' Association (GHAA) has made an urgent appeal to the chief justice, calling for the immediate removal of stray dogs from the court's Sola campus in Ahmedabad. This demand follows a series of dog bite incidents, including a recent attack on an advocate that required hospital treatment.
Escalating Menace on Court Premises
The association formally raised the issue with the High Court administration back in November 2025, citing a Supreme Court directive regarding the sheltering of stray dogs. GHAA highlighted growing safety concerns due to the increasing population of stray dogs within the court complex.
The situation reached a critical point on Tuesday when advocate Radhesh Vyas was bitten by a stray dog. He was promptly taken to a hospital, where medical professionals administered three stitches to close the wound caused by the dog bite.
Formal Representation and Worsening Situation
In a letter addressed to the Chief Justice, GHAA president Yatin Oza referenced the November representation and stated that the scenario has since deteriorated. Oza's communication pointed out that the instances of dog bites to litigants had already reached four or five in December alone, even before Tuesday's attack on Advocate Vyas.
The letter emphasized, "The situation thereafter worsened and went out of control." It underscores the failure to address the problem following the initial request.
Mounting Anger and Demand for Safety
The GHAA's communication clearly articulates the rising frustration within the legal community. It states that the uncontrolled movement of stray dogs on the High Court premises is creating significant discontent and anger among bar members.
The association stressed that this issue poses a direct threat to the physical safety and security of advocates, litigants, and support staff who frequent the campus daily. Their primary demand remains the relocation of the dogs to a designated shelter home, as per the earlier Supreme Court order mentioned in their initial appeal.
The ball is now in the court of the High Court administration to take concrete steps to resolve this pressing safety hazard and restore a secure environment for all stakeholders at the Sola campus.
