Ahmedabad Hit-and-Run: Speeding Car Rams Multiple Vehicles, Driver Apprehended by Locals

A chaotic scene unfolded in Ahmedabad on Thursday night when a speeding car allegedly rammed into multiple vehicles near Lal Darwaza, causing injuries and prompting a dramatic chase by local residents. The incident, which occurred in the busy Lucky Tea Stall area, resulted in one person being hospitalized and led to the driver's capture near Ellisbridge Crossroads.

Details of the Accident and Injuries

According to traffic police officials, the vehicle approached at high speed from the Shahpur side and collided with three to four vehicles before crashing into a two-wheeler near Lal Darwaza. The injured man was identified as Chirag Gadhia, a clerk at the Home Guard Bhavan in Lal Darwaza. He sustained injuries in the collision and was admitted to a private hospital in Bodakdev for treatment.

Police investigations revealed that the accused driver is a 20-year-old resident of Vasna who was operating a rented car at the time of the incident. Two friends were accompanying him in the vehicle when the accident occurred. Preliminary reports suggest the driver lost control of the steering, leading to the chain of collisions.

Chase and Capture by Local Residents

After causing the series of accidents, the driver attempted to flee the scene. However, alert locals immediately gave chase, pursuing the vehicle through the city streets. The pursuit culminated near Ellisbridge Crossroads where residents managed to detain the driver with assistance from Traffic Regulation Brigade (TRB) personnel who had reached the spot.

The driver was subsequently taken to Ellisbridge police station for further processing. Police confirmed that the accused did not possess a valid driving license at the time of the incident, raising serious questions about road safety enforcement.

Police Investigation and Legal Action

Traffic police officers conducted a medical test to ascertain whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accidents. The car had been rented specifically for an outing with friends, according to police statements.

Authorities have initiated legal action against the accused and are in the process of registering a formal case. Further investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and whether additional charges will be filed.

This incident highlights growing concerns about road safety in busy urban areas and the importance of proper licensing and vehicle control. The quick response by local residents demonstrates community vigilance in addressing traffic violations that endanger public safety.
