Ahmedabad Man Files Police Complaint Against In-Laws Over Threats and Paternity Denial

A resident of Kubernagar in Ahmedabad has filed a formal police complaint alleging serious threats and intimidation from his in-laws residing in Nagpur, Maharashtra. The 32-year-old complainant claims his wife's family has threatened him with "dire consequences" and declared that his wife will no longer live with him, according to the complaint registered at Meghaninagar police station on Wednesday.

Timeline of Events Leading to the Complaint

The sequence of events began when the man met his wife through a matrimonial application in July 2024. The couple subsequently married in Nagpur in December 2024, after which the wife moved to Ahmedabad to live with her husband. In January of this year, the wife traveled to Nagpur for the delivery of their child.

"A family ceremony was held there on January 19, which I attended along with my parents and relatives," the man stated in his police complaint. The baby was born on January 28, and the complainant visited Nagpur again to meet his wife and the newborn. "During this visit, my wife told me I was not the child's father," he alleged in the complaint.

Alleged Threats and Intimidation from In-Laws

The situation escalated significantly following the birth. The man alleges that his mother-in-law called him and said, "I am not sending my daughter there. Call your brother and sister-in-law to your house and live peacefully." According to the complaint, she used abusive language during this conversation and threatened him with dire consequences.

The threats reportedly intensified in March when his father-in-law allegedly gave him death threats over the phone. "Son-in-law, there will be killing and dying. Either you will die or I will," the father-in-law is alleged to have said, as per the police complaint.

Legal Action Sought by the Complainant

The 32-year-old Ahmedabad resident has formally requested legal action against his in-laws through the Meghaninagar police. The complaint details multiple instances of alleged threats and the paternity denial that occurred after the birth of his daughter earlier this year.

The police are currently investigating the matter based on the allegations presented in the complaint. The case highlights complex family disputes that can arise in inter-city marriages and the legal recourse available to individuals facing such threats.
