Ahmedabad: Man assaults wife, threatens family with knife

A shocking incident of domestic violence and criminal intimidation has been reported from the Thaltej area of Ahmedabad, leading to the registration of a formal police case. A 39-year-old homemaker has accused her husband of physical assault and threatening the entire family with a knife.

Altercation Turns Violent at Thaltej Residence

The complaint, filed with the Vastrapur police, details a terrifying sequence of events that unfolded on Friday morning at the family's residence. The woman, who lives with her husband, in-laws, and three children, stated that her husband had recently returned from Rajasthan, where he had been working for about a week.

The situation escalated around 8 am when the woman was on the terrace drying clothes. Her mother-in-law was present in the house, while her father-in-law was away for carpentry work. Upon coming downstairs, she found her husband rummaging through a cupboard. When she offered assistance, he allegedly started an argument, began throwing clothes on the floor, and subjected her to verbal abuse.

Assault and Knife Threat Creates Panic

The argument quickly turned physically violent. As per the First Information Report (FIR), the husband then started assaulting his wife with his fists and also struck her with a household object. When the victim's mother-in-law tried to intervene and stop the beating, she was allegedly pushed aside by her son.

The chaos intensified when the woman's father-in-law returned home during the altercation and attempted to pacify his son. At this point, the accused reportedly pulled out a knife and threatened to kill everyone present in the house, sending the family into a state of extreme panic.

Police Case Registered After Hospital Visit

The family managed to protect themselves until the police could be alerted and arrive at the scene. Following the traumatic incident, the assaulted woman was experiencing severe pain in her head and neck. Her mother-in-law subsequently took her to the Sola Civil Hospital for necessary medical treatment.

It was at the hospital that the formal police complaint was recorded. Based on her testimony, the Vastrapur police have registered a case against the husband under relevant sections of the law. The charges include assault, criminal intimidation, and domestic violence.

The police are now investigating the matter further to gather additional evidence and statements before proceeding with legal action against the accused husband.
