Ahmedabad Man Booked for Impersonating Police Officer at Traffic Junction
In a startling incident in Ahmedabad, a 45-year-old man was booked by Bodakdev police on Thursday for allegedly impersonating a police official and unlawfully stopping vehicles at a busy traffic junction near SG Road. The complaint was formally filed by Tejubha Ditubha, a police constable attached to the N Division traffic unit in the city.
Details of the Incident
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the event unfolded on Thursday between 3:30 PM and midnight. During this period, Tejubha, along with TRB jawan Bharat Bhagwan and home guard Mayank Kirti, was diligently performing traffic regulation duties at the Malhar Dosa cut, which leads towards Hebatpur village, situated between Shilaj and Bhadaj circles.
Around 8 PM, the traffic team observed an unidentified individual dressed in attire closely resembling a police uniform. The man was wearing khaki trousers, a light blue shirt, and black leather boots that mimicked standard police footwear. He was actively engaged in stopping passing vehicles and demanding drivers to present their vehicle documents and driving licences.
Confrontation and Admission
Suspicious of his conduct, the traffic personnel approached him and requested to see his official police identification card. In response, the man identified himself as Bharat Senma, aged 45, a resident of Vadasan in Vijapur taluka of Mehsana district. He falsely claimed to be posted at the Prahladnagar police station.
However, when pressed to produce his identity card, he was unable to do so. Under sustained questioning, Senma eventually admitted that he was not employed with the police department at all. Despite lacking any official position, he had deliberately posed as a state servant and exercised unauthorized authority by stopping vehicles and inspecting documents.
Legal Action Taken
Police authorities stated that the accused had no legal authority to perform traffic enforcement duties and had engaged in impersonation of a public servant. Consequently, an offence under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for impersonation as a public servant was registered at the Bodakdev police station. This case highlights the serious legal repercussions of such deceptive actions, which undermine public trust and safety.
