Ahmedabad Man Falls Victim to Rs 4.53 Lakh Loan Scam, Police Launch Probe
In a distressing incident of financial fraud, a man from Ahmedabad was duped of Rs 4.53 lakh by individuals who promised to arrange an instant high-value loan. The Shahibaug police registered a case of cheating and breach of trust on Saturday, initiating a thorough investigation into the matter.
How the Scam Unfolded: Promises of Quick Loans and Government Subsidies
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the complainant was contacted between January 7 and 12 by unidentified persons using two mobile numbers. The callers claimed they could arrange an immediate loan of Rs 1.35 crore and assured that 40% of the amount would be covered under a central government subsidy scheme. To gain the victim's trust, they promised quick approval and disbursal of funds, making the offer appear legitimate and attractive.
Multiple Instalments Collected Under False Pretences
The accused allegedly collected money in multiple instalments through online transactions, citing various processing fees and formalities as reasons for the payments. In total, the victim transferred Rs 4,53,641 to the fraudsters. However, despite these payments, the promised loan was never sanctioned, and the money was not returned despite repeated follow-ups by the complainant.
Police Investigation Underway Using Digital Evidence
Police authorities have confirmed that an investigation has been initiated to trace the callers. The probe is leveraging call records, bank transaction details, and digital evidence to identify the perpetrators. Further investigation is ongoing, with officials working to uncover the full extent of the scam and bring the culprits to justice.
This incident highlights the growing threat of financial fraud in the digital age, where scammers exploit victims' trust with false promises of quick loans and government benefits. Authorities urge citizens to exercise caution and verify the credentials of any entity offering financial services, especially through unsolicited calls or messages.
