A violent family dispute over a recent elopement turned bloody in Ahmedabad, leaving a man hospitalised with serious stab wounds. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday evening near Ram Rahim Tekra, led to the arrest of a 44-year-old accused by the Danilimda police.
Violent Altercation Over Court Marriage
The conflict reportedly stemmed from the court marriage of the victim's niece to the nephew of the accused. According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by the victim's 30-year-old wife, her husband was discovered in a critical and bleeding condition by neighbours late on Wednesday.
The victim later told relatives that the attacker confronted him, leading to a heated argument filled with abuses and accusations. The situation rapidly escalated, culminating in the accused stabbing the victim in the abdomen and on the right side of his jaw.
Emergency Response and Police Action
Alerted by the commotion, residents gathered at the spot, causing the assailant to flee. The victim's family members rushed him to LG Hospital, where he underwent urgent surgery for his injuries, with particular focus on the severe knife wounds to his jaw.
In her complaint, the wife clarified that her husband had no direct role in the elopement. However, he had previously suggested to the accused that the newlywed couple should return after two months so that their families could formally accept and celebrate the marriage. Police officials stated that this earlier conversation appears to have fuelled the resentment that led to the violent attack.
Arrest and Legal Charges
The Danilimda police acted swiftly, arresting the 44-year-old accused on Wednesday itself in connection with the case. Law enforcement has registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for attempted murder and criminal intimidation. Provisions of the Gujarat Police Act have also been invoked against the accused.
The case highlights how deeply personal family matters, especially those concerning marriage and honour, can sometimes erupt into public violence, necessitating police intervention.
