In a disturbing incident that unfolded in the early hours of Sunday, a communally sensitive situation erupted in Ahmedabad, resulting in a policeman sustaining injuries. The violence occurred after a mob allegedly chased and attacked a man who had been brought to the Danilimda police station for safety, highlighting tensions in the area.

Sequence of Events Leading to the Attack

According to DCP Zone-6, Bhagirathsinh Gadhvi, the incident began around 12:25 AM when four members of a family, including a 17-year-old girl, were traveling on two scooters from Kagdapith towards Behrampura. A biker allegedly collided with one of their scooters, sparking a verbal altercation that quickly escalated.

As the matter intensified, the family left the spot and alerted members of their community nearby. A group then allegedly intercepted the biker and began assaulting him, turning a minor traffic dispute into a violent confrontation.

Police Intervention and Subsequent Violence

A traffic police officer who noticed the commotion intervened promptly, rescuing the biker and escorting him to the Danilimda police station for protection. However, the situation took a dangerous turn when some members of the mob allegedly followed them to the station.

Upon arrival, the mob pelted stones, injuring the biker and causing minor injuries to a policeman on duty. Additional police forces were rushed to the spot to disperse the crowd and restore order, as confirmed by DCP Gadhvi.

Legal Actions and Arrests Following the Incident

In the aftermath, three First Information Reports (FIRs) were registered to address the various aspects of the incident:

  • First FIR: Filed with Kagdapith police by the family, alleging sexual harassment and hurting of religious sentiments against the biker.
  • Second FIR: Lodged against the biker by a police officer involved in the case.
  • Third FIR: Registered at Danilimda police station against seven individuals for attempt to murder and assault on a public servant.

Police have arrested four accused persons in connection with the attack, underscoring the seriousness with which authorities are treating this communal flare-up. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the fragile social fabric in certain urban areas and the need for vigilant law enforcement to prevent such escalations.
