Ahmedabad's CG Road & SBR Closed for New Year Eve: Traffic Plan
Ahmedabad New Year Traffic Restrictions on CG Road, SBR

In preparation for the upcoming New Year's Eve festivities, the Ahmedabad city administration has announced significant traffic restrictions on two of its most popular celebratory hubs. To ensure public safety and smooth traffic flow, CG Road and Sindhu Bhavan Road (SBR) will be temporarily closed to vehicular movement.

Detailed Road Closures and Timings

The restrictions, ordered by City Police Commissioner G S Malik, are part of a broader set of guidelines for New Year and Uttarayan celebrations. The closures are scheduled to begin on Wednesday evening.

CG Road, a major attraction for revellers between Stadium Circle and Panchvati, will be completely shut for traffic from 6:00 PM on Wednesday until 3:00 AM on Thursday. Parking along this stretch will also be prohibited starting at 6:00 PM. Commuters are advised to use designated alternative routes and can cross CG Road only at specific intersections without entering the restricted zone.

Similarly, Sindhu Bhavan Road will be closed from 8:00 PM to 3:00 AM. The closure will affect the section from the crossroad near Auda Garden to Taj Skyline Crossroads. Motorists should use alternative routes via Ashwamegh Bungalows and Kalibari Temple Road to bypass the closed section.

Enhanced Security and Additional Restrictions

To manage the expected large crowds, the police will deploy substantial manpower. Additional police force and traffic personnel will be stationed on both stretches, supplementing the local police, to prevent unauthorized vehicle movement and maintain order.

Restrictions have also been imposed on vehicle movement and parking along the SG Highway and adjoining areas. Authorities are urging all drivers to plan their journeys, using parallel and alternative routes during the restricted hours to avoid inconvenience.

Guidelines for Firecracker Usage

In a related development, the Ahmedabad police have issued specific guidelines for the use of firecrackers on New Year's Eve. Adhering to environmental and safety norms, the use of crackers will be limited to a strict 35-minute window.

Only green crackers approved by the Supreme Court are permitted, and these can only be purchased from licensed vendors. This move aims to curb pollution and prevent accidents during the celebrations.

The comprehensive plan by Commissioner Malik's team underscores a focus on balancing public celebration with safety and regulatory compliance. Residents and visitors are encouraged to cooperate with the authorities for a smooth and happy New Year transition.
