Ahmedabad Police Uncover Major Drug Haul Hidden in Onion Consignment

In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch made a major seizure on Friday, recovering a staggering 406.35 kilograms of ganja. The operation led to the arrest of two individuals under the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Intelligence-Led Interception Near Narol Circle

Acting on specific and actionable intelligence, police officials intercepted a Mahindra pick-up vehicle near Narol Circle in Ahmedabad. The tip-off indicated that a large consignment of illegal cannabis was being transported from Maharashtra to Ahmedabad, cleverly concealed beneath a load of onions.

The police swiftly acted on this information, stopping the vehicle as per the received details. Upon conducting a thorough search, officers discovered the ganja hidden underneath the onion stock, confirming the intelligence reports.

Arrests and Preliminary Investigations

The two accused arrested in connection with this case have been identified as Deepak Jat, aged 20, a resident of Shirpur taluka in Dhule district, Maharashtra, and Satej Pawara, aged 23, from Joida village in Sangvi, also located in Dhule district, Maharashtra.

During initial questioning by crime branch officials, the arrested individuals revealed that the ganja was loaded at Karmala village, situated near the Madhya Pradesh-Maharashtra border. They named two individuals, Sagar Pawar and Shantaram Pawar, as responsible for loading the consignment.

The intended delivery point was a specific location in Ahmedabad, where the drugs were to be passed on to other parties involved in the trafficking network.

Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Probe

A formal case has been registered under the NDPS Act, and further investigation is actively underway. Police are focusing on:

  • Identifying the intended recipient in Ahmedabad.
  • Tracing other persons involved in the broader drug trafficking network.
  • Seeking remand for deeper interrogation of the arrested accused to uncover more details.

This seizure highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking in the region, utilizing intelligence-driven operations to intercept illegal substances before they reach their destinations.
