Ahmedabad Police to Establish New Zone 8 for Enhanced Policing in Eastern City
The Ahmedabad city police are embarking on a significant administrative restructuring initiative, with plans to create a new Zone 8 in the eastern part of the city. This strategic move aims to strengthen policing efforts in rapidly growing areas, ensuring better law and order management as the region expands.
Administrative Restructuring and Key Appointments
The proposal for Zone 8 has already been submitted to the state home department and is expected to be finalized within the next month. This development follows the recent reshuffle of IPS officers by the state government, which included the appointment of Mayur Patil as deputy commissioner of police (DCP) for the proposed zone. Although the zone has not yet been formally notified, officials in the state home department indicate that this appointment suggests the new policing unit is likely to become operational soon.
Details of the New Zone and Police Stations
According to the plan, Zone 8 will be carved out from the existing jurisdictions of Zone 5 and Zone 6, incorporating five to six police stations. Currently, Zone 5 includes Bapunagar, Nikol, Amraiwadi, Rakhial, Gomtipur, Odhav, and Ramol police stations, while Zone 6 comprises Maninagar, Isanpur, Kagadapith, Narol, Vatva, Vatva GIDC, and Danilimda. As part of this restructuring, a new police station is proposed in Vastral, which currently falls under the Ramol police station jurisdiction. After the reorganization, Vastral will be separated and brought under the proposed Vastral police station.
Impact on Territorial Jurisdiction and Sector Expansion
The restructuring will also necessitate changes in the territorial jurisdiction of at least three police stations to better manage the growing residential areas and industrial zones along the eastern ring road and nearby localities. With the addition of Zone 8, Sector 2 of the Ahmedabad city police will expand to four zones, as it currently includes Zones 4, 5, and 6. Police officials emphasize that this new zone is expected to significantly improve supervision, reduce response times, and enhance overall law and order management in the city's rapidly developing eastern corridor.
This initiative reflects a proactive approach by the Ahmedabad police to adapt to urban growth and ensure public safety in evolving neighborhoods.
