70-Year-Old's Wife Attacked in Ahmedabad Over Electricity Meter Dispute
Ahmedabad: Senior Citizen's Wife Attacked Over Meter

Elderly Woman Assaulted with Brick in Shahibaug Altercation

A peaceful Friday afternoon in Ahmedabad's Girdharnagar area of Shahibaug turned violent when a long-standing dispute over an electricity meter escalated into a brutal physical assault on a 70-year-old retiree's family. The incident, which occurred around 4 pm on Friday, resulted in injuries to two family members.

Confrontation Over Damaged Meter Turns Violent

The chain of events began when the elderly complainant and his wife were inside their home and heard a suspicious breaking sound from outside their residence. Upon stepping out to investigate, they were confronted with a shocking sight: their neighbour was allegedly damaging the electricity meter installed outside their house.

When the elderly couple questioned their neighbour about his actions, the situation rapidly deteriorated. The accused individual reportedly became aggressive and hurled abuses at them. The verbal confrontation quickly turned physical when the accused, in a fit of rage, picked up a loose brick from the vicinity and struck the 70-year-old woman on her head and abdomen.

Injuries and Aftermath of the Attack

The brick attack caused the elderly woman to bleed profusely. As the situation unfolded, the complainant's nephew arrived at the spot and attempted to intervene. However, he too became a target of the accused's violence, sustaining an injury on his wrist from a flying brick fragment.

Thankfully, local residents intervened, prompting the accused to flee the scene. The injured woman and her nephew were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. According to reports, the woman required ongoing medical care and was still undergoing treatment following the assault.

Police officials revealed that the accused had a history of prior disputes with the complainant's family specifically concerning the installed electricity meter, which likely motivated the vandalism and subsequent attack.

Legal Action and Police Investigation

In response to the incident, the Shahibaug police station has registered a First Information Report (FIR). The case has been filed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), specifically citing causing hurt using dangerous means and acts endangering the life of others.

The police have confirmed that a comprehensive investigation into the matter has been initiated to apprehend the accused and deliver justice to the victimized family.
