Ahmedabad Teen Rescued in West Bengal After Online Gaming Rape and Abduction
In a distressing incident highlighting the dangers of online interactions, a 16-year-old Class 12 science student from the Vejalpur area of Ahmedabad was rescued by police at Kharagpur railway station in West Bengal. The minor had been allegedly raped and abducted by a person she met through the popular online game Free Fire, sparking urgent concerns about digital safety for young users.
Online Connection Turns Dangerous
Police investigations revealed that the minor was reportedly lured away by a 22-year-old daily-wage labourer from West Bengal. The duo had been in contact for nearly 18 months, initially connecting through the gaming platform Free Fire and later communicating extensively via WhatsApp. This prolonged online relationship set the stage for the subsequent criminal acts, underscoring how virtual friendships can escalate into real-world threats.
Details of the Alleged Crime
According to police reports, the accused travelled from West Bengal to Ahmedabad on January 22. He allegedly raped the girl after finding her alone at home, taking advantage of her vulnerability. The following day, he cunningly lured her into boarding a train from Kalupur railway station in Ahmedabad, with the intention of transporting her to his home state of West Bengal. This calculated move aimed to isolate the victim further from her support system.
Swift Police Action Leads to Rescue
After the girl's family reported her missing, Vejalpur police sprang into action. Utilizing her phone location data, authorities traced her movements in real-time. Working in close coordination with railway police, they intercepted the train at Kharagpur railway station in West Bengal. The timely intervention resulted in the rescue of the minor and the immediate arrest of the accused, preventing further harm.
Previous Assaults and Legal Proceedings
Investigations uncovered that the accused had visited Ahmedabad on previous occasions and had allegedly assaulted the girl twice before this incident, indicating a pattern of predatory behavior. M Division ACP A B Valand confirmed the arrest and noted that a medical examination of the accused was currently underway as part of the legal process. The girl was safely handed over to her family, receiving necessary support after the traumatic ordeal.
Legal Framework and Charges
Vejalpur police have registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, reflecting the severity of the crime. This incident serves as a stark reminder for parents and guardians to monitor their children's online activities and educate them about the risks associated with digital interactions. Authorities emphasize the importance of reporting suspicious behavior promptly to prevent such tragedies.
