In a tragic late-night incident near Ahmedabad, an elderly couple became the victims of a horrific road accident. A speeding truck rammed into their scooter, resulting in the death of the 70-year-old husband and causing severe injuries to his wife, who later had to undergo leg amputation.
Details of the Tragic Accident
The accident occurred around 12:15 am on Wednesday near the Zundal bridge, on the route connecting Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad. The victims, identified as Mansinh Chaudhary (70), a resident of Vavol, and his wife Ramila (63), were on their way to Ahmedabad when the tragedy struck.
According to the Adalaj police, a truck following their scooter was being driven rashly at high speed. The driver allegedly failed to maintain a safe distance and crashed into the two-wheeler from behind. The impact was so severe that the elderly couple was thrown off the scooter.
Fatal Injuries and Immediate Aftermath
Mansinh Chaudhary fell under the truck, and one of its wheels ran over his body. He was killed on the spot. His wife, Ramila, suffered critical injuries to both her legs and arms.
She was rushed to a private hospital in Chandkheda via a 108 ambulance and was later referred to another private hospital in Ahmedabad for advanced treatment. Due to the severity of the injuries to her left leg, doctors had to perform an amputation below the knee. She also sustained fractures in her hand and remains admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Police Action and Investigation
The complaint in the case was filed by Sanjay Chaudhary, Mansinh's brother-in-law, who works as a station master at Kalol railway station. The Adalaj police have registered a case against the unidentified truck driver under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for causing death by negligence and grievous hurt.
The body of Mansinh Chaudhary was sent for a post-mortem examination as part of the standard procedure. The police investigation into the exact circumstances and to trace the accused driver is ongoing.
This incident has once again highlighted the dangers of rash driving and the vulnerability of two-wheeler riders on Indian roads, especially during late hours.
