A late-night dispute over travel arrangements for a wedding descended into violence in Ahmedabad's Sarkhej area, leaving a young student and two of his companions injured. The incident, which occurred on Thursday night, led to the filing of a formal police complaint on Saturday, prompting an investigation into charges of assault, rioting, and criminal intimidation.
How a Simple Disagreement Spiraled into Violence
The trouble began when a 20-year-old student, who had traveled to his village for a friend's wedding, was returning to Ahmedabad with relatives. According to the First Information Report (FIR) lodged with the Sarkhej police, the group reached Sarkhej around 10:30 PM on Thursday. As they prepared to head back to their village, a disagreement erupted over shifting women passengers between two vehicles to manage space.
After the vehicles departed, the situation took a dangerous turn. The student was allegedly confronted by three local men near a residential lane. The trio accused him of misbehaving with the women during the earlier seating rearrangement, verbally abused him, and then launched a physical assault, punching him repeatedly.
The Attack and Subsequent Threats
When two friends of the victim rushed to his aid, they too were allegedly beaten by the attackers. The FIR states that the assailants did not stop at the physical violence. After assaulting the trio, they allegedly threatened to kill the 20-year-old student if he dared to report the incident to the police.
Injured and intimidated, the student first went to his maternal uncle's home. He informed his father about the attack. The following day, on Friday, his father took him to the Limbdi Government Hospital for a medical examination. After being medically examined, the student and his father approached the Sarkhej police station to formally register a complaint.
Police Action and Ongoing Probe
Based on the complaint, Sarkhej police have registered a case against the unidentified accused. The charges include sections for assault, criminal intimidation, and rioting. Authorities have confirmed that an investigation into the entire sequence of events is currently underway. The police are working to identify and apprehend the three men involved in the violent clash.
This incident highlights how minor disagreements can quickly escalate into serious public altercations, resulting in physical harm and legal consequences. The police are urging the public to resolve disputes through dialogue and lawful means rather than resorting to violence.
