Ahmedabad Woman Files Police Complaint Over Assault and Threats in Redevelopment Dispute

A 39-year-old woman residing in the Thaltej area of Ahmedabad has lodged a formal complaint with the Vastrapur police station, alleging serious offenses including assault, criminal trespass, and criminal intimidation. The incident stems from an ongoing dispute related to redevelopment work near her apartment complex, which has escalated into a disturbing confrontation.

Family Disturbed by Demolition Work

According to the complaint registered on Wednesday, the woman was at home with her mother and her 13-year-old son, who is disabled. She reported that demolition activities associated with the apartment complex's redevelopment were causing significant disruption, including heavy dust and loud noise that were troubling the family. The situation prompted a neighbour to call the police over the issue, leading to the woman's father, along with two other residents, visiting the police station to address the matter.

Alleged Intrusion and Threats

While her father was away, the building secretary allegedly entered her house in the afternoon without permission. The complaint states that he began questioning her about her father's whereabouts. In a shocking turn of events, the accused is said to have caught hold of her hand and demanded that she come out of the house. The woman further alleged that he issued explicit death threats, stating, "If you do not come out of the house, I will kill you and your father. If not today, then tomorrow, I will get the house vacated."

Escalation and Police Action

Upon her father's return, he objected to the alleged threats, only to be met with further violence. The complaint alleges that the accused slapped and abused him as well. In response to these serious allegations, the Vastrapur police have registered a case under multiple sections of the law, including:

  • Assault or use of criminal force with the intent to outrage a woman's modesty
  • Criminal trespass and house-trespass
  • Criminal intimidation

The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to gather evidence and statements from all parties involved. This case highlights the tensions that can arise in urban redevelopment projects, where disputes over property and living conditions sometimes lead to confrontations. Residents and community members are closely watching the developments, hoping for a swift and just resolution to ensure safety and peace in the neighborhood.
