Ahmedabad woman stabbed in revenge attack, two arrested

In a shocking incident of alleged revenge, a 48-year-old woman was brutally stabbed multiple times in the Narolgam area of Ahmedabad. The attack, which occurred on Wednesday evening, was reportedly carried out by a man who was searching for her elder son, who is accused in a murder case.

Paroled Murder Convict Leads Brutal Assault

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (K-Division) Y A Gohil, the primary assailant has been identified as Mazhar Qureshi (27). Qureshi was out on parole for a 2021 murder case. The police stated that the motive behind the attack stems from a separate homicide in April 2024, where Qureshi's elder brother was allegedly killed by the victim woman's eldest son. Notably, the woman's son was also out on parole in connection with that murder case.

Attack Outside Family Grocery Store

The violent episode unfolded as the victim and her daughter were closing their family-run grocery shop for the day. As per the First Information Report (FIR) filed with Danilimda police, Qureshi arrived with an accomplice, Mohammed Sheikh (26), on a scooter. After confronting the woman about her son's whereabouts, Qureshi allegedly launched a frenzied knife attack.

The victim suffered multiple stab wounds to her stomach and abdomen. In a desperate attempt to defend herself, she also sustained knife injuries on both her hands. Prompt intervention by neighbouring shopkeepers prevented further harm, and the critically injured woman was rushed to LG Hospital.

Arrests Made and Legal Action Initiated

Following a complaint of attempted murder filed by the victim from the hospital ICU, the Danilimda police acted swiftly and arrested both Mazhar Qureshi and Mohammed Sheikh on Thursday. Medical reports confirmed the woman endured a total of five stab wounds to her abdomen.

ACP Gohil revealed that the main accused, Mazhar Qureshi, has a serious criminal history, with six previous cases registered against him, including the 2021 murder. His accomplice, Mohammed Sheikh, is also now in police custody.

The Danilimda police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for attempted murder, criminal intimidation, and abetment, along with provisions of the Gujarat Police Act. The investigation into the precise sequence of events and the search for the woman's son is ongoing.
