Ahmedabad Youth Allegedly Threatens Students with Weapon, Vandalizes Car After Minor Altercation
In a disturbing incident in Ahmedabad, a 19-year-old youth allegedly threatened students with a sharp weapon and vandalized a parked SUV following a minor altercation on Monday afternoon. The Navrangpura police have registered a case of attempt to murder and are actively searching for the absconding accused, identified as Aditya Rathod.
Details of the Incident and Police Investigation
According to police reports, the incident occurred when several students were standing outside a college campus. Rathod was passing through a narrow lane in an SUV when an argument erupted between him and some students over "looking at his vehicle." In an alleged inebriated condition, Rathod got out of his vehicle, pulled out a sharp weapon, and damaged a student's car parked nearby. Other students present claimed they were also threatened with the weapon.
Navrangpura police Inspector M D Champawat stated that a case of attempt to murder and other relevant offences has been registered against Rathod. "The accused is currently absconding," Champawat confirmed. Police are scanning CCTV footage from the area to establish the exact sequence of events and gather evidence.
Background of the Accused and Past Involvement
Officers revealed that Aditya Rathod is the grandson of Kishor Rathod, a known bootlegger from the city's Asarwa area. This connection adds a layer of concern to the case, highlighting potential familial influences. Furthermore, Rathod was involved in a fatal accident near the Sardar Patel Memorial in Shahibaug several months ago, where a scooter rider died after being hit by a speeding SUV. This past incident underscores a pattern of reckless behavior and raises questions about prior legal actions.
The police are intensifying their efforts to locate Rathod, emphasizing the seriousness of the charges. The community remains on alert as authorities work to ensure public safety and bring the accused to justice.
