Contractual Employee of AIIMS Rishikesh Allegedly Shot Dead by Partner in Haridwar
A tragic incident has shaken the community in Rishikesh as a 30-year-old woman, employed on a contractual basis at the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh, was allegedly shot dead by her partner at her rented residence. The police confirmed the details on Sunday, revealing a story of relationship turmoil that ended in violence.
Timeline of the Tragic Incident
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dehradun, Ajai Singh, the shooting occurred around 10 pm on Saturday evening. The police received information from concerned residents who heard commotion at the location. A police team immediately rushed to the spot, broke open the gate of the residence, and discovered the victim's body.
"She was rushed to AIIMS Rishikesh for emergency medical attention, but doctors declared her dead upon arrival," stated SSP Singh, highlighting the swift but ultimately unsuccessful attempt to save her life.
Background of the Victim and Accused
The victim has been identified as Preeti Rawat, a native of Yamkeshwar in Pauri Garhwal district. She had been living in Rishikesh's Shivaji Nagar area for approximately three years. Her professional journey began at a local shop where she first encountered Suresh Gupta, a married man from Laksar in Haridwar district.
Their acquaintance gradually developed into a relationship. In a significant life decision, Gupta divorced his wife with the intention of marrying Rawat. To meet the conditions set by Preeti and her family, he took the drastic step of selling his ancestral property to finance the purchase of a house in Rishikesh.
Financial Strains and Escalating Disputes
Despite his efforts, financial constraints prevented Gupta from completing the house purchase. This failure became a persistent source of tension between the couple, leading to frequent and heated disputes. The situation had deteriorated to such an extent that Preeti's father had previously filed a formal complaint with the authorities.
The complaint alleged that Gupta was pressuring his daughter to marry against her wishes, indicating significant coercion in their relationship dynamics.
Legal Action and Police Investigation
Based on the father's complaint and the subsequent fatal incident, the police have registered a case under BNS section 103(1), which pertains to murder. A comprehensive investigation has been launched, and authorities have initiated an operation to apprehend the accused, Suresh Gupta, who remains at large.
This case highlights serious concerns about domestic violence and partner conflicts in the region. The police are urging anyone with information about Gupta's whereabouts to come forward as they continue their manhunt to ensure justice is served for Preeti Rawat.
