Security Guard Assaulted at Bengaluru Airport by Cab Driver

A disturbing incident of violence unfolded at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru in the early hours of Monday, where a 25-year-old security guard was physically assaulted and later threatened with death by a cab driver who was allegedly acting as a tout.

Details of the Early Morning Altercation

The victim has been identified as Debasish Biswas, a landside security guard who has been employed at the airport for approximately one year. The accused is Gangadhar, a cab driver. The confrontation occurred at around 4:30 AM in the Quad area of Terminal 2.

According to reports, Biswas observed Gangadhar attempting to forcibly pick up passengers, causing significant disruption and inconvenience to other vehicles in the process. In line with his duties to maintain order, Biswas approached Gangadhar and instructed him to leave the airport premises immediately.

Escalation to Physical Violence and Threats

This directive sparked a heated argument between the two individuals. The situation rapidly deteriorated when Gangadhar, in a fit of rage, physically assaulted Biswas and subjected him to verbal abuse. The altercation did not end at the airport.

In a particularly alarming turn of events, Gangadhar later followed Biswas to his residence, where he issued explicit death threats against the security guard. This act of intimidation has added a severe layer to the criminal nature of the incident.

Legal Action Initiated Under New Law

Following the assault and threats, a formal police case has been registered against the accused cab driver, Gangadhar. The charges have been filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, specifically citing:

  • Section 115: Voluntarily causing hurt.
  • Section 126: Wrongful restraint.
  • Section 351: Criminal intimidation.

This case highlights ongoing concerns regarding touting activities and passenger safety at major transportation hubs like KIA. Authorities are investigating the full circumstances surrounding the incident to ensure appropriate legal proceedings are followed.
