Major Drug Bust in Ajmer: Police Seize 6.20 Kg Opium Worth Rs 35 Lakh
In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Ajmer police have successfully seized a substantial quantity of opium and apprehended two individuals in the early hours of Monday. The operation, which unfolded on the highway near Nasirabad, resulted in the confiscation of 6.20 kilograms of opium with an estimated street value of approximately Rs 35 lakh.
Intelligence-Led Operation Leads to Interception
According to police officials, the District Special Team received precise intelligence on Sunday night regarding the transportation of narcotics from Madhya Pradesh to Punjab. Acting swiftly on this critical tip-off, a coordinated blockade was established near the Jadwasa police post. The operation was spearheaded by Special Team in-charge Satyawan and Nasirabad Sadar SHO Ashok Bishu, who mobilized resources to intercept the suspected vehicle.
Dramatic Chase and Seizure
At around 3 a.m., a mini truck attempted to evade the police blockade and flee the scene. However, law enforcement officers pursued the vehicle and managed to intercept it near Srinagar. Upon conducting a thorough search, the police discovered the opium cleverly concealed near the tyres of the truck. The seizure underscores the sophisticated methods employed by traffickers to smuggle illicit substances across state lines.
Arrests and Legal Action
The driver and conductor of the truck, identified as Bhupendra Singh (50) and Kalwant Singh (35), both residents of Muktsar Sahib in Punjab, were immediately taken into custody. They have been charged under the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, which carries severe penalties for drug-related offenses. A formal case has been registered, and investigations are ongoing to uncover potential links to broader drug networks.
This operation highlights the proactive efforts of the Ajmer police in combating drug trafficking, which poses a serious threat to public health and safety. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to intensifying surveillance and enforcement actions to curb the flow of narcotics in the region.
