Akola Crackdown: 750 Litres Diesel Seized in Fuel Hoarding Raid

Akola Authorities Launch Major Crackdown on Illegal Fuel Hoarding

In a decisive move against fuel hoarding, authorities in Akola have taken strict action, resulting in the seizure of a substantial quantity of diesel and the arrest of a suspect. The operation, part of the ongoing 'Operation Prahar', underscores the administration's commitment to enforcing commodity regulations.

Raid Uncovers Illegal Diesel Storage

Acting on credible intelligence, a coordinated team from the Akola police Local Crime Branch (LCB) and the tehsil office conducted a raid on April 3. The target was a location in Kolambi, falling under the jurisdiction of the Borgaon police station. During the operation, officials discovered and confiscated 750 litres of diesel, with an estimated market value of approximately Rs67,500.

The diesel was stored in five containers, and in addition, seven empty plastic containers were also seized, indicating potential plans for further hoarding. This illegal stockpile was being maintained without the necessary license, violating established norms.

Legal Action Initiated Against Accused

The authorities have identified the individual involved as Sheikh Mohammad Sheikh Dabrrahim, a 25-year-old resident of Kurankhed. Legal proceedings have been formally initiated against him under Sections 3 and 7 of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955. This act is designed to regulate the production, supply, and distribution of essential commodities to ensure their availability and prevent malpractices like hoarding.

Officials confirmed that the accused is now facing charges related to the unauthorized storage of diesel, which is considered an essential commodity under the law. The crackdown sends a strong message against such illegal activities that can disrupt supply chains and inflate prices.

High-Level Coordination in Operation

The successful raid was executed under the expert guidance of senior officials, highlighting the multi-departmental effort involved. Key figures overseeing the operation included Additional Superintendent of Police B Chandrakant Reddy and LCB Inspector Shankar Shelke. Revenue department officials also played a crucial role, acting on the directives of Superintendent of Police Archit Chandak.

This collaborative approach between police and revenue authorities ensured a thorough and effective enforcement action. 'Operation Prahar' continues to be a focused initiative aimed at curbing illegal activities and maintaining law and order in the region.

The crackdown in Akola is part of broader efforts to combat fuel hoarding, which can lead to artificial shortages and price manipulation. By taking swift action, authorities aim to protect consumer interests and uphold regulatory standards. Further investigations are ongoing to determine if there are any additional links or networks involved in this illegal storage operation.
