Akola Minor Rape Case Triggers Protests, Accused Arrested Under Pocso Act
A horrific incident of sexual assault on a six-year-old girl in the Akot Fail area of Akola has sent shockwaves through the community, leading to immediate police action and widespread public outcry. The crime, which occurred on Monday, has prompted right-wing organizations to demand a fast-track trial and the harshest possible punishment for the perpetrator.
Swift Police Action Leads to Arrest
Police responded promptly to the complaint, arresting the accused, identified as Sohel Khan Jamir Khan, a resident of the Akot Fail locality, on the same day. A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, ensuring the legal framework is in place for a rigorous prosecution.
According to the complaint filed by the survivor's father, the minor girl lives with her mother and two sisters in Naigaon. The assault came to light on the morning of February 16 when the child contacted her family and disclosed the traumatic incident. The survivor's elder sister has also come forward with serious allegations against the accused, adding weight to the case.
Pattern of Alleged Abuse Uncovered
The complaint details a disturbing pattern of behavior, alleging that the accused frequently visited the survivor's home and engaged in indecent and abusive conduct with the minor girls. It is further claimed that he assaulted them when they attempted to resist his advances. Police have taken comprehensive steps in the investigation, including recording the survivor's statement and conducting a thorough medical examination to gather crucial evidence.
Akot Fail police station in-charge Rahim Sheikh confirmed to media, "The accused was produced before the court, which has remanded him in judicial custody." This legal step ensures the accused remains detained as the investigation progresses.
Public Outcry and Demands for Justice
The incident has ignited strong reactions from community groups, with organizations like Bajrang Dal and Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) condemning the crime in the strongest terms. They have called for decisive action to ensure justice is served swiftly and effectively.
Bajrang Dal district president Suraj Bhagewar expressed deep concern, stating, "Incidents of sexual offences against minor girls are increasing, and it is imperative that this case be tried in a fast-track court." This demand highlights the growing public frustration with delays in the judicial process for such grave crimes.
The case underscores the urgent need for robust child protection measures and efficient legal mechanisms to address sexual violence against minors, as communities rally together to seek accountability and prevent future tragedies.
